Philip Dowswell on Mike Rinder

TRANSCRIPT:

I was a video editor for a number of years in the period when Mike held a management position in the Church, and I was in meetings with him on production matters, and when it came to asking about his end of it, very often he didn’t have what needed to be done, done, or didn’t have worked out what needed to be worked out. And so it would just be left to his superiors to then solve it.

One specific recollection, okay, so I was in a production meeting one time about the material for an upcoming event. So everyone was very attentive at this meeting, going over what needed to be done to complete everything that was the last details. And then in the middle of it, well, I hear someone yelling, “Mike, wake up!” Because he had just fallen asleep while the rest of us are, as I said, very attentive because it was, you know, there was a deadline to meet and yeah, it’s absurd.

There was this project where Mike had brought to me this material to edit, which is the one time I can recall that I worked directly with him. And after giving me the material to edit, which was definitely a large project to work on, at a certain point I noticed he had just simply gone to sleep in the chair behind me.

And I was like, “Oh, I see. I get it. I’m on my own on this one.”
