Kathy O’Gorman on Mike Rinder

TRANSCRIPT:

Rinder was totally an arrogant person. He just kind of lived off of the people that he was connected to—that had nothing to do with his ability to contribute to the organization or particularly on Office of Special Affairs lines. I don’t know that he’s ever done any work in his life.

I found that he was a lazy son of a bitch. And by that I mean, specifically, he always quote unquote “delegated.” A lot of the stuff he delegated was to me. And at first I thought, “Okay, fine. I’m capable of doing that.” But in retrospect, it was because he was too lazy to do it himself. That’s what he was like.

I also found that he had a temper, a horrible temper. In fact, one day, to my surprise, and I think to his as well, he whacked me. And I’m not talking about slapped me or hit me. He took a clipboard and took both of his hands, full body force and into the side of my face for no reason, because he was pissed off at somebody else. And that was outrageous to me. I think he broke a tooth, my tooth.

I remember sitting in staff meetings, after staff meetings, after staff meetings, where he would just denigrate staff members who were actually working hard and doing their job, but he would just tear them apart in front of the rest of the staff. Anyway, that’s what he was like to work with.
